Greetings CEC community.
We wanted to take a moment to inform you of some changes that are occurring behind the scenes at Career Education Center.
Over the last 15 years, CEC has been the Fairbanks campus of Star of the North Secondary School, a public charter school in the district. Beginning with the 2020-21 school year, this will change, and we will become an alternative program.
So, what does this mean?
Behind the scenes, there will be some changes in how we are organized and funded, but current and future CEC students and families will notice very few changes, if any.
Throughout this year and next, we will continue in the same location with the same staff. We will have the same enrollment requirements and offer the same courses, materials, and supports we currently provide.
After next year, we could see some changes at CEC, but we are confident that those changes will actually help us better serve students in the community.
We have strong support from district administration, the school board, and the community to do what we do at CEC, and we are confident that we are moving in a positive direction.
Moving forward there will be opportunities for members of the CEC community—past, present, & future—to weigh in on new directions our program might take, and we hope to hear your input and ideas.
CEC has been around in some form or another for over two decades. In that time, we have helped over 1,400 students earn a diploma, and we look forward to being around for years to come, helping many more students who just need a different path to graduation.
