Subject: West Valley High School Interim Principal Selected For 2023-24 School Year

FAIRBANKS–The Fairbanks North Star Borough School District is pleased to announce that Mark Winford has been selected as the Interim Principal of West Valley High School beginning with the 2023-24 school year.

Mark began his educational journey as a high school English teacher in Oak Harbor, Washington. After ten years as a teacher, Mark moved to Alaska in 2008 where he served as an assistant principal for five years at West Valley High School. In 2013, Mark became Principal at North Pole Elementary, where he has served the school community for the last ten years.

“Mr. Winford’s varied experiences in the community, the district, and as a leader makes him a great fit as interim principal for West Valley,” said Karen Melin, Chief School Administrator. “He has shown outstanding leadership as a principal at North Pole Elementary and it will be great to have him bring his depth of insight and experience to the Wolf Pack.”

Principal Mark shared, “I am incredibly excited to return to West Valley High School. I attended as a student and my three children recently graduated from there. I was raised and still live in the West Valley community. Having previously worked there as an assistant principal and engaged with the school for many years as a parent, I know that this is an outstanding group of educators, and I am honored to now be a part of their team.”
