Subject: Hutchison High School Principal Selected For Next School Year

FAIRBANKS–The Fairbanks North Star Borough School District is pleased to announce that Dave Dershin has been selected as the new Principal of Hutchison High School starting the 2024-25 school year.  

Dave began his educational career as a science teacher in Chicago in 1992. After a couple of years, Dave and his wife moved to Fairbanks where he began teaching at Tanana Middle School. He later moved to Lathrop High School where he taught science and technology classes for about 10 years. Dave then spent one year as an Assistant Principal at North Pole High School, and eventually moved back to Lathrop High School as an assistant principal and then as principal until 2014. In 2014, Dave became the Principal at Randy Smith Middle School where he has worked for the past 10 years.  

“Dave brings extensive experience and unwavering dedication to high expectations for our schools and students,” said Sarah Gillam, Assistant Superintendent. “He has demonstrated a commitment to our community, and I am excited for him to continue the tradition of excellence at Hutchison.”

Principal Dershin shared, “I was a member of the 2004 Hutchison redesign team, and I have been interested in working at Hutchison ever since. I hear amazing things about the staff, students, and parent community, and I am excited for this opportunity.”
