Gaborik named state Superintendent of the Year
FAIRBANKS — Lifelong Alaskan, educator and school administrator Dr. Karen Gaborik has been named Alaska’s 2019 School Superintendent of the Year.
The award is granted by the Alaska Superintendents Association and honors school system leaders who exemplify “effectiveness, knowledge, leadership, ethics and commitment,” according to a news release issued by the association Friday. The program is in its 32nd year.
Gaborik was born and raised in the Interior and graduated from the University of Alaska Fairbanks in 1991 with a bachelor’s degree in speech communication. She earned a teaching certificate through the Teach for Alaska program and went on to earn a master’s degree in special education at the University of Alaska Anchorage. She holds a doctorate in K-12 education administration from Argosy University, an online and brick-and-mortar institution with locations in 13 states.
