FAIRBANKS - The Fairbanks North Star Borough School District was proud to recognize the many organizations that contribute volunteer hours, expertise and financial support to enhance student learning. The school district honored these vital partners at an awards reception on Oct. 14.
The Construction Education Foundation has provided $1.2 million in grant funding benefiting Fairbanks-area students in the past 10 years. These funds paid for a host of activities including Careers in Construction Day, the semester-long construction academies (it includes NCCER certifications for students), and the introduction to the trades courses offered at Fairbanks Pipeline Training Center.
GCI sponsored the 2016 Interior Spelling Bee and provided funding for the winner to travel and participate in the Scripps National Spelling Bee. For the Attendance Matters video contest, winners won a tablet donated by GCI. GCI also records high school graduation ceremonies and makes them available online. They offer externships to teachers, and their retail staff hosted a successful school supply and snack pack drive for students at Ryan Middle.
ABR continuously supports the annual district science fair. ABR has provided monetary support and employee release time for science fair co-chair and judges, sponsored awards, and helped provide the student-created T-shirts given to the more than 500 participating students each year.
