Strawberries are Ripening: Two Men Pick Lard Pail Full Easily (July 7, 1906)
July 7, 1906
H.J. Badger and Adney Darling are to be awarded the cake. They have earned it. It will be a strawberry shortcake and the berries used will be some they picked Thursday afternoon.
These are the first strawberries reported to have been picked this year. They found them some distance from the city. Mr. Darling two years ago found the place, noticing at the time that the berries matured there much faster than in other places. A lard-pail of ripe ones were easily picked. And people will send winter pictures to the outside.
