    Friday marks the end of the non-student contact days mandated by Governor Dunleavy. School closures across Alaska are scheduled to continue through May 1. Beginning Monday we will launch remote learning for our district.

  • ASAA Cancels 2020 Spring Events

    The Alaska School Activities Association is announcing cancellation of all 2020 spring events, championships, regular season contest and practices. This decision applies to the following to: All-State Art, Esports (Spring Season), Solo & Ensemble, Track & Field, Soccer, Baseball and Softball.

  • School Closure Update

    Friday evening, Governor Dunleavy issued Mandate 8.1 that indicated, “Public and private schools are closed to students through May 1, 2020. Students will receive instruction through distance delivery methods. All after school activities will be suspended during this time.”

    It’s Friday of the first week of school closure. I can honestly say I’ve never experienced a week quite like this one, and I can only imagine that all of you are having a similar end-of-week exhale moment.

  • Schools Closed Through March 27

    Governor Dunleavy has announced the statewide closure of all public schools through March 27. We will continue to process new information as it comes to us and work to begin getting information out to families early next week.

  • School Closure for Students March 16-20

    I am announcing school closure for students for the week of March 16, effectively extending the student spring break one additional week. All after school sports, activities and events are cancelled as well, including all practices. It is also very likely that all outside events scheduled in our school buildings and venues will be cancelled.

  • March 12 | District Message regarding COVID-19

    As you are likely aware, the U.S. Department of the State, the World Health Organization, the Center for Disease Control, and the State of Alaska have recently updated their information and guidance regarding COVID-19. As the various federal and state agencies provide new guidance, we are updating our response accordingly. Although there are zero confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Alaska as of March 11, prevention is the key to mitigating spread of the virus in Alaska.

  • Regional Basketball Tournaments Postponed

    ASAA has postponed the State Basketball Tournaments, as an extra precaution, FNSBSD is postponing the Regional Basketball tournaments due to start Thursday, March 12.

  • District Response to Coronavirus COVID-19

    Every school year, school nurses and staff reinforce good hygiene practices with students to minimize the impact of illnesses on a student’s education. The Fairbanks North Star Borough School District is preparing staff, students, and families for the newest respiratory pandemic illness, COVID-19 (Coronavirus).
