Welcome to the Nordale Library
Nordale Elementary Library
Every student, kindergarten through grade 3, comes to the library every week for 40 minutes. Library time includes a story or brief library lesson for the first 15 minutes and checking out books for the second half of the period. Preschool classes also come to the library once a week, but instead of checking out books, they have a story with fingerplays and songs and then look at books. Students in grades 4 through six are welcome to come to the library and check out books anytime they'd like. We don't have regularly scheduled times this year. I am teaching four encore classes with students in grades 4 through 6. During this time those students are encouraged to check out books. The library supports the curriculum for student research, as well as having books to interest the students in reading for pleasure. My goal is for all of our students to become lifelong readers and learners.
The Alaska Battle of the Books has posted book lists for this year. Go to the Battle of the Books website to see the lists or visit me in the library!
Any book that helps a child form a habit of reading, to make reading one of his deep and continuing needs, is good for him.
The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you’ll go.
My name is Rhiannon Wiegand. I am a certified teacher and taught in the classroom for 10 years. This is my second year as a school librarian. I believe I have the best job in the school system. The library is a safe place for students to gain knowledge and develop a passion for books. I have the opportunity to develop relationships with them where they are successful. I guide them to seek out their personal interests and facilitate a love of learning through many different channels.
