About Us

  • Emily Ticasuk Ivonoff Elementary School- Ticasuk Brown is located in the Interior of Alaska near the town of North Pole, was built in 1987 and has an enrollment of about 395 preschool through fifth grade students with 70 full-time and part-time staff members. We are named after the outstanding Alaska Native educator Emily "Ticasuk" Ivanoff Brown, who did much to preserve traditional Alaska Native languages and culture in our state. Emily's Alaska Native name, Ticasuk, means:

"Where the four winds gather their treasures from all parts of the world . . . the greatest of which is knowledge."

Title I School- This is determined by the percent of students that qualify for free/reduced lunch. As a Title I school in the Fairbanks North Star Borough School District, we receive additional federal funds for support in reading and math.  These funds help us to provide supplemental academic support  for our students, additional professional development for our staff and increased parental involvement opportunities for our parents. If you would like to learn more about our Title I program and funds, please contact the front office.  We would love to have your input and ideas as we continually review our plan and create a program that will provide our students with excellent support for academic success.

Class Size- We aim for the district target class sizes though the movement of families can fluctuate our numbers quite quickly.  District Target Class Size Numbers are 25 students per classroom K-5th

Military Connected Families- 30% of Ticasuk students are from active duty or military connected families. For more information about district support of our military students, please Click Here.

Alaska Native Education-The ANE program supports AN/AI students in grades K-12, and provides cultural enrichment for all students in the Fairbanks North Star Borough School District. For more information about district support of our military students, please Click Here

Recess Everyday- Everyday students attend recess as part of our adopted school program.  Make sure your child is prepared for our winter temperatures as district policy has students going outside until the temperatures drop below -20’F.  Though some new families find this surprising, the actual experience is enjoyable and rewarding as this occurs during our sun-up winter hours.  Remember, be prepared every day for outside recess; rain is the exception.
