PEAKS Reports
-
Due to COVID-19 and school closure in the spring of 2020, the FNSBSD did not administer the PEAKS and Alaska Science assessments. Therefore, there are no results to report for 2020.
In the spring of 2019, Alaska's students took the Performance Evaluation of Alaska's Schools (PEAKS). It assessed 3rd-9th grade students in English language arts and math. Students in grades 4, 8, and 10 also took the Alaska Science Asssessment.
PEAKS is a summative assessment of Alaskan students' performance against adopted state standards in English language arts and mathematics. The Science summative assessment measures students' understanding of the Alaska Science Grade Level Expectiations that were adopted in 2006. PEAKS and the Science assessment are not formative data that can directly inform daily instruction. These tests provide a high level view of Alaskan student learning, and is a snapshot of how groups of students perform when compared to Alaskan students as a whole. It is not a definitive measure of the effectiveness of specific teachers, schools, or districts, and while it will be one factor in a future school rating system, it is not the sole determinant for school ratings or performance. PEAKS results provide one point of data, which will be considered as part of the district's larger data picture. There is substantial evidence of the success of district students, including graduation rates, Alaska Performance Scholarship qualifiers, and other universal screening tools.
2019 PEAKS reports will be available in PowerSchool. Students' individual PEAKS reports from previous years are now available for in PowerSchool under "Student Records" and then "Student File" (see image below). The reports are only available through the PowerSchool Guardian account and only when using a web browser. Reports are not available through the mobile app.
