    Attached are the bell schedules that will be used throughout the school year. We will be using 3 different schedules depending on the number of school days in the week.     News-Miner — Inventors and creative minds from around the world submitted their designs, concepts and programs for a panel of judges at the Arctic Innovation Competition, but it was the local talent that really showcased itself at the event in Fairbanks on Saturday.

    The first K-8 charter school for the city of North Pole received unanimous approval this week from the Alaska State Board of Education and Early Development.

  • Noel Wien trees grow again in other libraries

    Sturdy little ficus trees are alive and well, thriving now in libraries throughout the Fairbanks North Star Borough, thanks to the Fairbanks Library Foundation. These plants were among the 620 cuttings taken from the four beloved “ficus benjamina” trees that adorned the lobby of the Noel Wien Library for so many years.

    As summer winds down in the Interior and the days become chillier, wetter and shorter, the approach of autumn causes everyone to pick up their pace and prepare for the coming winter. Fall also heralds the beginning of another school year, and local schools, empty and silent over the short summer, are beginning to hum with activity as teachers, counselors and administrators prepare for another busy year of educating and nurturing our youths.
