How We Support Military-Connected Students
-
Welcome to the Fairbanks North Star Borough School District!
Fairbanks North Star Borough School District (FNSBSD) is a military-friendly school district. We want to help make your transition in our schools as smooth as possible and provide you up-to-date information while you are here!
With more than 12,470 students and 34 schools in the district, we educate over 3,800 military-connected students, which is 31% of the total student population (current information as of 04-4-22).
The school district has Anderson Elementary (Eielson AFB: K-2nd grades), Arctic Light Elementary (Fort Wainwright: K-8th grades), Crawford Elementary (Eielson AFB: 3rd-6th grades) and Ben Eielson Jr/Sr High School (Eielson AFB: 7th-12th grades), that are located on base and post.
The school district manages three Department of Defense Education Activity (DODEA) grants:
The school district received a STARTALK World Language grant from the National Security Agency (NSA) for students at Arctic Light Elementary, Ladd Elementary, Tanana Middle, and Ryan Middle School.
The school district recieved a DoD STEM grant funding STEMKAMP (Science, Education, Technology, and Mathematics for Kids of Active Military Personnel) project for Crawford and Ben Eielson Jr High students.
Military Personnel) project. The school district works with the National Math and Science Initiative (NMSI) for students at Ben Eielson Jr/Sr High School and North Pole High School.
The school district supports the Child and Youth Behavioral Military & Family Counseling program, funded by the Department of Defense, where eight counselors serve six elementary schools, one junior/senior high school, two middle schools, and two high schools for students, families and staff.
We would like to take this opportunity to say thank you to our military families, especially our youngest heroes-your children, our students!
