The Ryan Middle School Counselors are dedicated to supporting students in their academic, career, and social/personal development. To assist in these areas the counselors provide individual counseling, group counseling, and career exploration as well as helping students develop organizational skills for academic success.
The counselors are located between the Main Office and the Nurse’s Office. Students are encouraged to make appointments with the counselors when needed and parents/guardians are encouraged to call/make appointments when necessary.

Academic Information
Ryan Middle School offers several opportunities for students to get caught up on work and stay on task. Utilizing class time is the best way a student can keep assignments current and stay on track. The counselors are also available to help students organize and improve their study skills. We offer several opportunities for students to catch up on missing assignments, get additional help with homework and work on projects.

Bullying Information
Ryan Middle School has a strict policy regarding bullying. Students are encouraged to talk to their school counselors when bullying does occur. If you or someone you know is being bullied make sure to tell an adult so that the bullying can be addressed. No one deserves to be bullied.

Career Development
Ryan Middle School is proud to use the Alaska Career Information System or AKCIS to set up career development profiles for all of its students.

Schedule Information
Exploratory classes are intended to enhance the discovery process. The goal is for students to step out of their comfort zone and try something new and exciting. Students will have the opportunity to take four exploratory classes of their choosing.

Internet Safety
With increasing technology and rapidly developing programs, it can be tricky to keep up with it all. Students need to educate themselves about the safest ways to navigate the internet and social networks. The following sites are great resources to learn how to use the internet in a smart and safe way.

SBA Testing Information
Every year Alaska students complete the Standards Basic Assessment (SBAs). Students in 7th grade complete the reading, writing, and math portions of the test. 8th grade students complete reading, writing, math, and science. Testing will take place over the course of four days in early April.

LGBT Support
Here at Ryan Middle School we want to ensure all students are in a safe environment regardless of their sexual orientation. Don't hesitate to talk to the counselors about sexual orientation concerns, questions, or needed support.
