Joy's K-8 Model
As part of the district strategic plan to provide more choice to students and parents, the Joy Elementary School will include the 7th and 8th grade for the 2020-21 academic year.
For 2020-2021 both 7th and 8th grade will be offered in an innovative K-8 model.
The 7th & 8th grades at this school are open to all students in the district, but district bussing is available only for the students in the school's attendance area. The K-8 lottery process takes the place of the “out of attendance area” application for 7thand 8thgraders at this school.
Interested in enrolling? The district uses an online lottery portal to collect, verify, and process applications. (Students already attending 7th grade at this school MUST notify the office if they wish to remain at the same school for 8th grade.)
- First round lottery application period: Tuesday, January 21, 2020 at 9 a.m. through Friday, March 6, 2020 at 3:30 p.m.
- After the first round of the lottery closes on March 6, parents will be notified of their student's enrollment status by March 20, 2020.
- The K-8 Options lottery enrollment portal will reopen and students will be enrolled in the order in which they are received, on a space-available basis. If enrollment reaches capacity, student names will be added to a waitlist in the order in which they are received.

What Personalized Learning Looks Like at Joy
Students are provided with instruction based on their personal academic needs. This allows students of various academic levels to work together as peers and at their individual level of learning.
Individual student needs are met through a focus on the Core Four: Targeted Instruction provided by the classroom teacher, Flexible Tools for differentiated path, product, and space, facilitating Student Ownership and Reflection, and making Data Driven Decisions.
The goal at Joy is to provide programs and courses that will meet the needs and interests of our students while setting high expectations of accountability for behavior and academic success.
What Guidelines for Success Look Like at Joy
CHAMPS is a framework for setting expectations to promote and maximize academic achievement and behavioral competence. We know that when good behavior and good teaching come together, our students will excel in their learning.
We believe that by providing Positive Behavior Supports (PBS), we will build a school community where all students have an environment in which they can succeed and grow.
