Degrees and Certifications:
Miss Elisa Murrell, 3rd Grade Teacher
Dear Parents and Guardians,
Welcome to the third grade! I am excited to be your child’s teacher this year. I graduated from the University of Central Florida and decided I wanted to move back to Alaska after graduating. I love being outside, when the weather is nice. I try to get the class out as much as we can, especially when the sun is out. This year we have so much to explore and learn. It will be tons of fun!
I will keep open communication with you throughout the year. I will send out weekly newsletters that are sent home in the student’s Monday Packets. The newsletters will have the spelling and vocabulary words for the week and will also have what we will be learning during the week. I also use Class Dojo to keep parents in the know with what is going on in our class.
Schedule - This year’s schedule will be in our weekly newsletter. School begins at 8:00am. Doors open at 7:45am, NOT 7:30! Students who arrive after 8:05 will be marked tardy. Lunch is from 11:15-11:45 and recess follows from 11:45-12:15
Body Science - Every morning we have body science. Depending on the day we could either be in the gym or in the classroom. If your child is not feeling well or is hurt please send me a note.
Monday Packets – Every Monday your child will bring home a manila envelope with a plethora of items. This may include corrected homework, office newsletters, and classroom newsletters. Please return the empty envelope no later than Wednesday each week.
Homework – Homework will be assigned every day, with the exception of Fridays. More than likely it will be a math assignment. Depending on our science and social studies units, additional assignments may come home. There will be times that they may have writing assignments come home if it was not completed in class. Homework is due the following day.
Spelling Tests – Spelling tests will be given on Fridays throughout the year.
Snacks – Healthy snacks are allowed and encouraged. Please no sodas, fruit drinks, or unhealthy snacks (cookies/candy). We may have a set snack time but students may be working at the same time, so please no “messy” snacks. Water bottles are allowed in the classroom. If your child has an allergy or dietary restriction, please let me know as soon as possible.
Outdoor Winter Gear – The weather here can be unpredictable! Please make sure your student is prepared. Requirements are:
- Snow pants
- Snow jacket
- Snow Boots
- Scarf (optional)
We do not have a place inside for students to go if they forget their gear. Students are more than welcome to keep gear in the classroom for backup. Please make sure their gear is labeled with first and last name to prevent any mix-ups.
If you have any questions, thoughts, or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact me. I am available via e-mail or by phone. I look forward to a great and successful year. Please look for future announcements in the weekly newsletter.
