    Local Volunteer Opportunities

Volunteering benefits students with further developed social conscience, work-related experience, community appreciation, and increased scholarship opportunities. In the Fairbanks North Star Borough, volunteer opportunities include:

    •  Literacy Council of Alaska; volunteer in the bookstore, as a tutor, or in general at www.literacycouncilofalaska.org/getinvolved.html. The Literacy Council is specifically looking for Jr/Sr students to complete 10 hours of community service teaching grade K-6 children about how and why to be drug free. Jr/Sr high student volunteers receive a personal letter of recommendation from the council's school age coordinator for volunteering in the drug free program.
    •  Fairbanks Community Food Bank; visit www.fairbanksfoodbank.org. Volunteer to learn the many perks of volunteering and to apply for volunteering at the food bank.
    •  Fairbanks Memorial Hospital; apply to volunteer your time and skills with Banner Health at www.bannerhealth.com. Learn Ways.to Give and be a volunteer.
    •  Fairbanks Drama Association; (FDA) needs folks of all talents and ability levels". To volunteer, call the drama association at 456-PLAY or learn more about this organization at fairbanksdrama.org/index.htm.
