Ms. Rebeca Taylor, SPED Teacher
My name is Rebecca Taylor and I am the Special Education teacher at Crawford. This year I am the teacher at both Crawford and Anderson, which puts me at each school for half of the day. It is a challenge. Mrs. Crooks is still working as an aide in the Resource room and does a great job with the students. Also joining our team this year is Tammie Carter, who headed up RTI for many years, and Sherry Ingram, who arrived from Hawaii this summer. We have a good team and are off to a great start!
This is my eighth year at Crawford. I live in Fairbanks, but I love working with our Military families, so I make the drive. Helping the students find their strengths, learn how to learn, and fill in the gaps is what I strive to do each day.
We are excited to begin a new year. Students who receive math support will continue work with the Intervention Triumph Math program this school year. On Monday through Thursdays, student will bring home a pink homework math page. Students who receive reading support will bring home an orange fluency reading page on Monday through Fridays, which we ask them to read two times aloud to an adult. We then ask that you sign it for your child to return the next day. As part of the reading program in the resource room, students will have spelling words to write three times each day. The Spelling Test is on Friday. Students are given their new words Friday evening to practice on the weekend and continue writing each day until test day. They will not be required to do the spelling words in the general education classroom.
We have set up an orange homework folder that has the weekly schedule for homework along with resources for completing their math homework. Each assignment is designed to be fast. The way we improve and get better at doing things is PRACTICE!
We are looking forward to the gains each student will make this year. Thank you for your help and cooperation.
