Ms. Mari Hoe-Raitto, PE Teacher
My name is Mari Hoe-Raitto, and I am the Physical Education teacher at Crawford elementary school. I also teach P.E at Anderson elementary school here on base. I have taught at this school since 2012, and enjoy meeting and teaching all our students here.
I grew up in Norway, and came here to race sled dogs in 1980. I ended up getting a scholarship for UAA cross country skiing, and got my bachelors from UAF in 1986. I also have a Masters in Integrating the Arts into the Curriculum from Lesley University in Boston.
I live in Salcha. I have 3 children and 2 grandchildren, and I enjoy doing family activities and travels with them.
I have, and are still racing my sled dogs that is a lifestyle I have chosen and love. I also run a Pet boarding and farm facility on my property in Salcha.
My other hobbies are training Border Collies and herding and Bird dog training with Irish Setters and German Shorthair Pointers.
I love teaching Physical Education, that is essential for the health and well-being of every Alaskan student. I focus on fitness and health that will lead to enjoyment of physical activity.
Your children will learn motor and movement skills in a variety of physical activities and sports. Your children will participate 60 minutes of P. E. a week, where they will also learn social behavior that respects self and others in a physical activity setting. They will learn to value activity for health, enjoyment, challenge, self -expression and/or social interaction.
Our school has and is currently participating in Healthy Futures of Alaska, where your children keeps an activity log of how much he/she stays active every month.
