        Welcome to Midnight Sun Elementary School!

      Midnight Sun Elementary is a military-friendly school. We want to help make your transition in our schools as smooth as possible and provide you with up-to-date information while you are here! Our student body is 43% military connected; 49% Active Duty: USAF & USARMY, 17% Civil Service: USAF & USARMY, 11% Air Guard, and 23% Veteran/Retired Military.  

      We work very closely with the military installations School Liaison Officers.


      Our school district has more than 12,600 students and 33 schools in the school district, FNSBSD educates over 4,000 military-connected students, which is 33% of the total student population (current information as of August 2023).

      The FNSBSD manages three Department of Defense Education Activity (DoDEA) grants:

      • Tactical Tutoring for Elementary Readers (Midnight Sun Elementary)

      • Operation Arctic Algebra Advancement

      • Stealth Sciences (Midnight Sun Elementary)


      The FNSBSD supports the Child and Youth Behavioral Military & Family Counseling program, funded by the Department of Defense, where seven counselors physically serve five elementary schools, three middle schools, and three high schools for students, families and staff. Our Military Family Life Counselors serve Midnight Sun Elementary as well. Parents are welcome to reach out to any of the School MFLCs.

      For the past four years, the FNSBSD, Eielson AFB, Fort Wainwright, and the Fairbanks North Star Borough community have been awarded the Military Child Education Coalition's LTG (Ret) H.G. "Pete" Taylor Partnership of Excellence Awards:
