Introduction to AK STAR Adaptive Design
AK STAR
The Alaska Dept. of Education and Early Development (DEED) has partnered with NWEA to implement a balanced statewide assessment that better reflects learning throughout the school year and helps educators target instruction to students' individual needs.
The Alaska System of Academic Readiness (AK STAR) uses a testing platform developed by Northwest Evaluation Association. This assessment is administered to students in grades 3-9, and assesses their understanding of the Alaska English Language Arts (ELA) and Mathematic Standards adopted in 2012. This balanced approach connects the fall and winter MAP Growth interim assessments and the AK STAR spring summative assessment to provide a comprehensive system that improves efficiency and drives student outcomes by prioritizing teaching and learning. New in the spring of 2023, AK STAR is an adaptive test personalized for each student.
