2018-2019

Research & Accountability produces a variety of comprehensive reports throughout the 2018-2019 school year on class sizes, assessment results, graduates, program evaluations and many other topics. Presentations at 2018-2019 School Board Meetings are also provided.

This presentation provided results for the U.S. Department of Education's School Climate Surveys (EDSCLS), a suite of survey instruments for students (grades 5-12), staff, and parents. The surveys were administered in the Spring of 2018 and provide measures in the domains of Engagement, Safety, and Environment. An update to the data dashboard with Spring 2017 and Spring 2018 school climate results was demonstrated.

  • September 18, 2018 Presentation to School Board - Assessment Results for 2017-2018

This presentation provided district level results on the Performance Evaluation of Alaska's Schools (PEAKS) and the Measures of Academic Progress (MAP) taken by Fairbanks North Star Borough School District students during the 2016-17 and 2017-18 school years (through updated dashboards). Performance by attendance, race/ethnicity, gender, economic disadvantage, disability, and English language learner is provided.

This two page report provides information on the race/ethnic breakdowns of our school/district population (KG-12) utilizing two methods for reporting race/ethnicity.

  • November 6, 2018 Presentation to School Board - Every Student Succeeds Act Accountability

Helen Clark, executive director of federal programs, and Dr. Ellis Ott, senior research analyst, presented an overview of the accountability section of Alaska's Every Student Succeeds Act state plan, including a status report on school designations.. Performance by attendance, race/ethnicity, gender, economic disadvantage, disability, and English language learner is provided.

  • Data Dashboard update: Discipline (December 3, 2018 School Board Work Session)

The district data dashboard has been updated with a separate dashboard for discipline. The dashboard includes discipline counts and rates for in-school intervention/suspension, out-of-school suspension, and expulsions between the years of 2007-08 and 2017-2018. (FNSBSD Data Dashboard: Discipline)

  • April 2, 2019 Presentation to School Board - District Social Emotional Learning Supports

Helen Clark, executive director of federal programs, Dr. Ellis Ott, senior research analyst, Sheila Nyquest, director of student support services, and Vanessa Shannon, social services manager, presented information on the district's implementation of social emotional learning supports and an update on preliminary impact data related to the new social services managers' team.

On behalf of the Fairbanks North Star Borough School District, Ellis Ott, Ph.D., participated in a working group and contributed a case study for the NCES Forum Guide to Early Warning Systems. The guide provides information and best practices to help education agencies plan, develop, implement, and use an early warning system in their agency to inform interventions that improve student outcomes. The document includes a review of early warning systems and their use in education agencies and explains the role of early warning indicators, quality data, and analytical models in early warning systems. It also describes how to adopt an effective system planning process and recommends best practices for early warning system development, implementation, and use. The document highlights seven case studies from state and local education agencies who have implemented, or are in the process of implementing, an early warning system.
