Instructional Support Staff Educational Requirements

Fulfilling the DEED Paraprofessional Requirement for FNSBSD

Option 1

PROVIDE PROOF OF 48 COLLEGE CREDITS

If you have already completed higher education coursework, you can instantly fulfill this requirement by submitting your academic records.

Option 2

PASS THE PARAPRO ASSESSMENT

The FNSBSD Human Resources Department offers this composite assessment at the downtown Administrative Center (ADC) building on a monthly basis.

⏱️ Duration: 2.5 Hours 🎯 Required Passing Score: 459 💰 Fee: $95 (Check, Cash, or Card)

*Note: The passing score is a composite total across three sections: Reading, Mathematics, and Writing. Parapros working in a Title I school may have funding available to cover testing fees.

After registering, you will receive a calendar invitation containing additional study details.

Option 3

PASS THE WORKKEYS ASSESSMENT

This option consists of three targeted assessments. Each individual module runs 55 minutes, and they can be completed collectively in one session or split across up to three sittings.

• Graphic LiteracyLevel 3

📍 Location A: FNSBSD ADC Building (Monthly)

Fee: $28 for one assessment,$56 for two assessment or $79 for all three taken on the same day. Title I funding may be available. Exam results and certificates are emailed directly upon completion.

📍 Location B: Fairbanks Job Center (Twice Weekly)

Testing is free of charge but **must be scheduled well in advance.** Walk-ins are not accommodated. Please complete the following steps to secure your slot:

  1. Log into your personal account at my.alaska.gov.
  2. Navigate into the Alaska Jobs portal via the 'View Services' menu.
  3. Complete the core Comprehensive Registration profile.
  4. Call the local Job Center line at 907-451-5901 to verify registration, select an open test date, and coordinate details.
  5. Once testing is concluded, forward your physical/mailed official results profile to HR at human.resources@k12northstar.org.
