2026 Apprentice Cohort Timeline
FNSBSD Application Window: January 5-23, 2026
Applicant Review and Notification by February 15, 2026
Selected Apprentices completes UAF Admission Process and Requirements by March 30.
About the Program
The Teacher Apprenticeship Program is an earn-while-you-learn, hands-on experience designed to help aspiring educators gain classroom experience, receive professional mentorship, and work toward earning their teaching credentials—all while making a difference in local schools.

Plus: Tuition and fee assistance available through the University of Alaska Fairbanks

Who Should Apply?
We're looking for individuals who:
- Current district employee in a student-facing position
- Interested in pursuing certification in elementary education, secondary education, or special education
- Meets UAF School of Education program qualifications, to include:
- Bachelor's degree attained, OR
- Currently enrolled education student at UAF with a minimum of approximately 78 credit hours toward an elementary or approximately 90 credits toward a secondary education degree
- Ability to meet UAF admission requirements
- Ability to balance full-time employment while taking college courses
- An employee the district is committed to retaining for employment through the 2-year apprenticeship, and ideally beyond.
