Alaska Operating Engineers Employers Training Trust

Overview of Program: Operating Engineers can be found on numerous projects using construction equipment, working as Heavy Equipment Operators, Heavy Equipment Mechanics, and Service Oilers.
Qualifications for Program: You must be 18 years of age and be a high school graduate or have a G.E.D., a valid Alaska Diver's license, and no DUI's in the past 3 years.

Ironworkers Local 751

 

Overview of Program: Ironworkers work with iron, steel, brass, bronze, and reinforced concrete. Their work includes not only large industrial, commercial, or residential buildings, but also highways, bridges, power transmission towers, and metal tanks. Ironworking consists of four sub-trades: rigging, structural ironwork, reinforcing ironwork, and ornamental ironworker. Many workers become adept in two or more areas in order to give themselves more versatility and value in the job market.
Qualifications for Program: You must be 18 years of age and be a high school graduate or have a G.E.D., have a willingness to work hard and a desire to learn. You will also need to provide a copy of your birth certificate, a valid Alaska Diver's license, and a resume of work experience.

Associated Builders & Contractors of Alaska, Incorporated

Overview of Program:ABC conducts competitive interviews and places applicants with employers to begin apprenticeship programs. Apprentices complete correspondence instruction and document On-The-Job Training. Apprentices are paid a progressive wage beginning at 50% of the employers wage while learning the trade.
Qualifications needed: HS Diploma or GED. Current and valid driver's license. Six points or less on AK DMV record. Two semesters high school Algebra I with a grade of C or better. Alternative methods are available to meet math requirement. Must have a negative drug screen.
Application Deadlines: ABC conducts interviews monthly except December. ABC has continuous recruitment of qualified individuals.

Alaska Painters and Allied Trades Training Trust Local 1959 

Overview of Program: At the Painters and Allied Trades we cover a wide variety of trades. These trades include:

• • Drywall Finishers - our machine taper the most modern way of finishing drywall to date, the machine taper is a skill level that produces a tremendous amount of work in a short time.

• • Painting - as a painter you will be working with a variety of materials and tools, an infinite number of colors and on a great variety of substrates and structures.

• • Glazing - the glazing school is an intense study and requires the use of good mathematic skills and as an apprentice glazier you are required to learn this trade in all weather conditions.

• • Floor Covering - the work is nearly always done indoors, under temperature conditions considered in the comfortable range.

Attention to deal is a must. The program is 6000 hours of on-the-job paid training where you will learn to be a skilled and qualified mechanic in your desired trade. The IUPAT work on just about every construction job in the state. Most importantly we are a finishing trades union we are more likely to work year round. 
Qualifications for Program: 18 or older, have a high school diploma or GED, valid Alaska Driver's license required.

Alaska Teamsters Employment Training Trust 

Overview of Program: The Alaska Teamsters-Employers Service primary training facilities are located on Whitney Road in the industrial area of Anchorage. The school employs six full-time and three part-time instructors. The school provides training in the following areas: Construction Drivers, Technical Engineers, Fast Track CDL A and CDL B, Passenger endorsement, boom truck, forklift certification, hazardous waste first responder and general site worker, 49 CFR 172.700 Transportation Awareness and other classes in safety and first aid, MSHA and NSTC training. The Construction Driver Apprenticeship Program is a two year, 2400 hour program and the Technical Engineers apprenticeship program is a four year, 4000 hour program.

Sprinkler Fitters Local Union 669
 

Overview of Program: The principle function of a Sprinkler Fitter is the installation of Fire Protection systems. This includes underground supply piping, which is connected to an integrated overhead piping system for suppression of fire. Safety is first and foremost; therefore you will be trained in the care and proper use of tools and equipment. These will range from pipe wrenches and pipe threading machines to welding equipment and man lifts.
Qualifications for Program: High School Diploma or GED. Must be 18 years old, be physically fit to do the work of the trade, have other than dishonorable discharge from the military (if applicable). Must pass appropriate drug test.

Piledrivers & Divers Local 2520
 

Overview of Program: The school trains Piledrivers - the heavy and highway construction division of the Carpenters. The apprenticeship is a 4 year, 5200 hour program. Apprentices must go to school in Anchorage for a minimum of 144 hours each year and receive pay raises every 1300 hours of apprenticeship. Piledrivers build and maintain bridges, docks, piers, small boat harbors and oil platforms. Commercial Divers do underwater construction and repair, underwater welding and salvage jobs.
Qualifications of Program: Students must be able to pass drug and alcohol screening, be at least 18 years old, have a high school diploma or GED, possess a valid Alaska Driver's License and be an Alaska resident.
Application Deadlines: Applications accepted year round.
Cost: The Piledrivers and Divers union will pay schooling, students required to purchase carpentry and welding tools.

Center for Employment Education
 

Overview of Program: The Center for Employment Education (CEE) is a tuition-based, nonprofit, vocational school, offering commercial truck driver, hazardous materials and construction technology courses. CEE's basic driving program is nationally certified by The Professional Truck Driver Institute. The majority of our driving and hazardous materials programs are approved by the Alaska Commission on Postsecondary Education, the Veterans Administration, and the State of Alaska Department of Public Safety. CEE is also a contract agency for DMV, which allows our staff to conduct road skills exams. CEE's hazardous materials programs have also been approved by the Department of Transportation, the Department of Energy, the National Safety Council, and the International Air Transportation Association. CEE can customize a program to meet a company's or an individual's specialized training needs.
Qualifications for Program: Clean Alaska Driver's License record.

Overview of Program: Health care has a multitude of unique jobs and skill sets where traditional schooling is not always an option. Apprenticeships provide affordable pathways to careers without the typical student debt associated with college. FHP offers on-the-job training through federally registered apprenticeships.  

An apprenticeship is a paid job with Foundation Health Partners.  You will receive a paycheck from the first day of work, as well as health and retirement benefits while receiving on-the-job training.  Wages increase as you advance in knowledge, skills, and abilities.  At the completion of the apprenticeship term, you will earn a National Occupational Credential, recognized nationwide.
