About School Consolidation

The Fairbanks North Star Borough School District is preparing to address a critical challenge through a comprehensive School Consolidation Plan, which proposes consolidating up to 5 elementary schools and adjusting school boundaries. This effort is driven by the need to create long-term sustainability for our district.

Families and staff have overwhelmingly expressed a desire to avoid revisiting school closures year after year. Instead, the district is pursuing a thoughtful, strategic plan to make a single, informed decision that allows us to move forward as a united community. Together, we are building a stronger, more stable foundation for our schools—one that focuses on delivering the best possible educational opportunities for every student.

School consolidation is a necessary step to align resources with enrollment, ensuring our schools remain strong, sustainable, and focused on delivering the best education for every student.
