Math Materials Review & Public Comment

  • K-12 math textbook and material samples are now available for review and public comment at the FNSBSD Administrative Center (520 Fifth Avenue, Curriculum Library - 4th floor, Fairbanks, AK 99701) on February 1-5 and February 8-12 from 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., with extended hours on February 2 from 4:00 p.m. to 6:15 p.m.

    Due to the need for social distancing during the COVID-19 pandemic, the number of people reviewing materials at the same time will be limited.  You must schedule an appointment to review the materials.  Each appointment is 1 hour, but you may fill out the form below multiple times for additional time slots. Please note, visitors to the admin center must wear masks and maintain 6 feet social distancing while in the building.

American Literature Materials

  • The FNSBSD has an established process of reviewing and adopting materials to support curriculum.  In February 2020, several English/language arts samples of textbooks/materials were made available for public review and comment. The community was noticed through multiple avenues, and schools provided release time for staff to participate.  

    In April 2020, the School Board adopted the Into Literature (Houghton Mifflin Harcourt) series for grades 7-10. Based on teacher and community responses, Teaching and Learning is recommending the adoption of Into Literature 11, the next book in the series, for high school American literature courses.  A report will be presented to the School Board at the January 19 meeting, with the Board scheduled to take action on February 2, 2021 (School Board:

Curriculum Research & Revision

  • 2020-2021 Curriculum Revision 

    The FNSBSD is currently piloting two courses at West Valley High School titled Private Pilot Ground School 1A and 1B.  This aviation curriculum is being proposed as part of the Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) cluster under Career and Technical Education (CTE).  Public comment has closed on the first draft of the Aviation curriculum posted below, however, feedback is welcome throughout the revision process.  If you would like to submit comments on the proposed curriculum, please email
