K-12 Magnet School

  • The vision for this school is a kindergarten through 12th grade school that is competency-based with blended learning instructional model serving a diverse student population.

    Initial stakeholder engagement will take place June through December 2018, with parents, teachers, staff, and community members to give input and establish guiding principles.

    What do you mean by Equity and Diversity?
    Equity and Diversity - we cannot offer this amazing opportunity only to those who can “afford” it. The diversity of the school will mirror the diversity of our school district.

    What is Blended Learning?
    Blended Learning means that the “teacher at the front of the room” is not the source of all knowledge. It recognizes and values that people learn in different ways and blends modern ways of learning with old ways of learning. People can learn through technology, through stories, through direct instruction, and many other ways.

    How do we understand Competency Based?
    Competency-based refers to a model in which teaching and learning are designed to ensure the following

    1. Students advance based upon demonstrated mastery rather than on seat time.
    2. Competencies include explicit, measurable, transferable learning objectives that empower students; and
    3. Schools are organized to provide timely and differentiated support based on individual learning needs.
