Mandatory Training Information
Training for School District Staff
Step 1 - How do I know what training I need to do?
First, go to Employee Self Service (ESS). You can access Employee Self Service (ESS) on the district website under the staff tab. Remember, the login is your F number, but the password is a unique password different from your regular district password. If you don't remember your password, you can click the "Forgot your password?" button. If you are locked out or need help with your password, you can call Kathy Port at 452-2000 ext. 11324 to get help with getting that reset.
Once you’ve logged on, go to the Certifications tab. The Certifications tab will show you all your required trainings along with the date the training expires. Look at the expired column to see which trainings you have that are either expired or are about to expire that is what you need to complete.

Step 2 - Where do I get the training?
All trainings, except ALICE and Technology Security training, must be accessed through Canvas.
Staff members who do not already have a Canvas account, must first go to Canvas and log in with their f-number and district password. Logging in will create an account. Once logged in, you will see a navigation bar on the left-hand side with a link to Canvas Catalog. Directions for enrolling are found on the Enrolling in Canvas Course document.
Step 3 - My training is done, how do I get my certification completion updated on ESS?
When a Canvas course is completed, a certificate of completion is sent directly to your email. To locate your certificates on your account, follow these directions: Canvas Certificates.
Email your completed Canvas training certificate to email@example.com. Please be patient. Your records will be updated as soon as possible, but this may take a day or two.
Can I get a CEU credit for this training?
The State of Alaska now offers one CEU credit for specific courses offered through their eLearning site. Please review the eLearning Continuing Education Units page.
