West Valley Incoming Freshman Family Night
April 6, 2020
6:00-7:30pm
Dear Class of 2024 & Parents/Guardians:
Welcome to West Valley! The purpose of this letter is to provide you with information regarding the transition process to high school and some important dates you will want to be sure to put on your calendar!
How does my student know which classes to take?
Middle school teachers will submit recommendations for math, science, and English to West Valley Counseling staff. Students will find a form titled “2020-2021 Elective Selections for Freshmen at West Valley” in this packet. Students will choose 6 elective options for next year.
Incoming Freshman & Parent Night
The Wolfpack staff is excited to meet you! Our Incoming Freshmen & Parent Night will be held on April 2nd at 6-7:30 pm in the West Valley Performing Arts Center. This is your first chance to learn about West Valley and becoming part of the Pack! Parents and students will hear information regarding the freshman year registration process, course offerings and extracurricular activities. After our presentation, we will have all of our teachers and counselors, administrators, coaches and activity sponsors available to talk with and answer any questions you may have.
FAQ? Outside Credit
Our outside credit process requires students to get approval prior to taking an outside credit. The exception (under AR 984.31) is that middle school students who have taken college credit prior to high school are expected to submit their applications for high school credit consideration prior to the end of the first semester of their high school career.
Personal Learning & Career Planning Meetings
Later in the spring semester, counselors will meet individually with students and parents to develop a Personal Learning & Career Plan (PLCP) and review course selections for West Valley classes. Our PLCP schedule includes:
Randy Smith Middle School – April 13-15
Ryan Middle School – April 20-21
Tanana Middle School – April 16These meetings will be held at the middle schools.
Appointments for these meetings will be scheduled by your student’s middle school counseling staff.Barnette, Chinook, & Watershed Charter Schools – April 6, 11am-5pm @ West Valley
Appointments for these meetings need to be made by parent’s calling the
West Valley counseling office (479-4221) ext 46520Registering for classes beyond middle school can be complex, so please don’t worry if you don’t understand everything all at once! Students, if you have questions talk to your parents, teachers, and counselors. Experiencing success your freshman year is important to all of us and your first year at West Valley is the foundation for this success. Take the time to plan your first year of high school well!
