Looking Back - Journey to Personalized Learning

  • The first steps to where we are now in our personalized learning journey began with the creation of the district's strategic plan in 2015.

Strategic Plan Timeline & Process
  • After gathering feedback from 1,428 employees, parents, community members, and students, the 2015-2019 strategic plan was created. The number one strategic goal is:

    1. Personalized Learning: Provide students with options to meet their needs and achieve academic success.

Superintendent School Visits

  • As part of her personal action steps related to Strategic Plan Goal #2: Effective Communication, Dr. Gaborik has engaged in regular visits to schools to talk with staff in informal, optional meeting settings after the work day. At every staff visit Dr. Gaborik talks about elements of the school board's strategic plan and invites questions and dialogue around “hot topics” of the moment. The initiatives under Goal #1: Personalized Learning have been common themes in the discussions at every school, including the K-8, the BEST program, high school options, full-day kindergarten, and most recently district-wide implementation of personalized learning.

Inservice Keynote

  • Personalized learning was the focus of the district inservice keynote speaker in August at the beginning of the 2016-17 school year. View the presentation slides of Assistant Superintendent Ryan Russell of Metropolitan School District in Warren Township, Indianapolis.
