Data review is a vital part of the MTSS process because one guideline for MTSS implementation is having approximately 80% of the students reach the benchmark criteria established by the screening tool. Teachers, administrators, counselors, etc. will use the universal screening and progress monitoring data to make meaningful instructional changes for students. The data team will also evaluate the data and the processes used to collect the data to ensure the system is working for all tiers. The FNSBSD would suggest that a minimum of four data points in progress monitoring be used when determining the effectiveness of a particular intervention or strategy. Each school will determine how often Tier 2 and Tier 3 students will be progress monitored.
