Your amazing children wrote complete stories with main character(s), setting, beginning, problem, and solution.  They made a brainstorming page, rough draft, and then "published" in their best handwriting.  They got to read their stories to the class and celebrate their success!

We are still observing our mystery creatures and waiting for further development.  We learned words like metamorphosis and symmetry through art projects.  Ask your child what creature comes out of a cocoon and what comes from a chrysalis.

    Dates to Remember:

May 8: Weller Primary Music Concert-10:30 in the gym-Children will sing and return to class.  Please wait until the entire concert has ended before coming down to give hugs and get your Mother's Day gifts AND clean out your child's cubbie!  We will not need gym shoes or blankets anymore.

We are continuing to learn about our Mystery Creatures, take data, and modify our hypotheses.  We are documenting their growth and will be reading non-fiction texts to learn more about what they are.  We will also work on symmetry with an art project.

We are also continuing to learn about our plants with our plant journal.  We made beautiful Van Gogh inspired sunflower paintings.  We also finalized our experiment about what a seed needs to grow.

    Happy Earth Day!

Please return all Take Home Books and folders!  I will not be sending Take Home Books for the remainder of the year.  We will continue reading in class.  When your child brings back their books and folder, I will let them pick a BIG PRIZE to encourage the return of all my materials.   If you find one in the summer, send it in next fall!  They are very valuable.

This week we will learn about some mystery creatures that will be joining our class.  We will also continue learning about plants and collecting data in our plant journals.  We will be working on creating our own complete stories with main characters, a setting, beginning, problem, and solution!

Mother's Day is around the corner!  If you plan to come to the Weller Primary Classes Spring Concert on May 8, at 10:30-PLEASE come down to our room to hug up your little performer AND bring home your Mother's Day gifts AFTER the entire performance!  It will be a much safer trip home for your gifts!

Literacy Take Home Books will continue this week for students that have retruned their envelopes.  Please make sure your child reads the book before returning it to school for a prize:)  A book comes home each week.

We wrote a class book last week working our way through the entire writing process!  We started with a brainstorming outline of the 5 elements of a story, wrote a rough draft, edited, and published a final draft!  Your child will bring home their "published" book, The Cheeto Monster Saves the Day!, by Our Class!

Thank you for sending back the Take Home books and envelopes!  I love being able to send new books home each week!

Last week we learned about force, push, pull, and strength through tug-of-war, clay play, pushing (throwing) and pulling (catching) yarn balls with different levels of strength, racing hot wheels down ramps to collide, and a very messy art project with marbles and paint!

This we we will learn about the 3 Rs-reduce, reuse, and recycle.  We will create recycle art on Friday!

We will also be creating a class book that has the 5 elements of a story and goes through the entire writing process!

Happy April Fool's Day!  I hope your child told you all about Poisson d'arvil that we learned about last week during our French lesson with Mrs. Vockeroth!  It is the French equivalent to April Fool's Day, but you get a paper fish sneakily taped to you instead!

Please, please, please send back your child's Take Home Book and envelope!  I cannot send home a new book until the old book is returned.

Last week we learned all about seeds and plants by dissecting lima beans, planting our own seeds, and a science experiment to observe the growth of seeds with soil, light, and water as well without each one.

This we we will focus on the forces of push and pull through tug-of-war games (very well supervised:), hot wheels on ramps, and marble works.

The children built amazing bridges to hold the Three Billy Goats Gruff that were weighted with 10, 5, and 1 gram weights last week!

In the next couple weeks we will be learrning about forces with pushing and pulling experiments.  We will also be learning about the life cycle of plants.

Literacy Stations will continue with Take Home Books coming home.  We may not have an opportunity to practice the books together as much at school, as I will also be completing 3 separate individual literacy assessments on each of the 26 children for the district required AIMSweb+ assessments.  If your child need more help with their books, that is why.

Please let any families you know with children entering Kindergarten next year to register THIS Spring.  The more accurate the number of students we have registered in the Spring, the more accurate staffing will be to teach the students in the Fall.

Thank you for sharing your incredible children with us!

Welcome back from Spring Break!  I hope you had a fabulous time with your family!

This week we will continue with our Fairytale STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) challenges.  Last week each child designed and built a bed that was off the ground and could hold a 10 gram weighted Goldilocks.  They also built a house that could hold a Little Pig without blowing over when the wolf huffed and puffed (with some help from a hair dryer)-the children learned a lot about perseverance as well as engineering.  We also made book reports, learned about the 5 elements of stories, and took turns acting out the stories with some fun props.

We will continue with our Take Home Books this week and literacy stations.  Please remember that your child can only bring home a new book when the old one is returned.
