Gwendolyn P. Brazier began teaching for the Fairbanks North Star Borough School District in 2009. In her first year with the district she taught general music and physical education at Salcha Elementary School. 2010 was the beginning of her current part time music position at Barnette Magnet School teaching band and orchestra. In 2013 she began teaching at Arctic Light Elementary School making her a full time Band and Orchestra teacher. In 2017, she tepped down as Barnette Magnet and Arctic Light Elementary Schools' Band and Orchestra teacher to help the program at North Pole High School. She is the current band and orchestra teacher at North Pole and was the General Music Teacher at Barnette Magnet School. in 2019, the North Pole Ligh School Music Department is added a guitar program and it shares a position with Barnette Magnet School Orchestra.Over the last several years she has added a Kindergarten violin program to each of her schools and a musical theater class at Barnette Magnet. She served as the after school advisor for the West Valley High School Thespian Drama Troupe #628 from 2011-2017 when she was moved to North Pole High School. She stage directs for North Pole High School's annual musical and has previously ran choir club at Arctic Light Elementary School and at Barnette a ukulele class for K-3 students and a hip-hop dance club.Her talents do not end in the classroom. Ms. Brazier is an avid Fairbanks arts community supporter and performer. She has performed as a bassist in the Fairbanks Symphony Orchestra and as a guest solo vocalist and choral member of Choir of the North and the Alaska Camerata. She has directed and performed in numerous shows throughout the Fairbanks theater community. She has worked and performed with the Fairbanks Drama Association, Fairbanks Light Opera Theatre, Fairbanks Shakespeare Theatre, University of Alaska Fairbanks (UAF) Theater and Film Department, Fairbanks Opera as well as the UAF Student Drama Association.Currently, she is a founding member and board president for Interior Independent Theatre. In her spare time, Gwendolyn also performs with a popular 70's funk band called Shagg.
