The Cub Code

  • PBIS - "Cub Code"
Joy Elementary staff and students use a Positive Behavior Intervention System (PBIS) called "The Cub Code." The Cub Code states that staff and students always display these traits:

    RESPECTFUL, RESPONSIBLE, SAFE, and INVOLVED.

Students receive Cub Code lessons from staff on each of these attributes throughout the school year. There is a Cub Code lesson for each setting within our school. When staff members notice a student that is being respectful, responsible, safe, or involved, they may receive a “Cub Code Ticket.” Tickets are used as part of individual classroom management plans.  Please see your child's teacher for information about their specific classroom practices and procedures.

Please see the attached Joy Elementary School Cub Code Expectations Matrix. Here at Joy Elementary we believe in the 4:1 ratio of positive to negative interactions. For every negative comment a child experiences, it takes four positive comments to “refill” the bucket.
