  • What's happening at the Lathrop Library?

     

    April

     

    Noel Wien Public Library will be back for another lunch craft on Thursday, April 25th during lunch! We will be making sushi candles. 

     

    Seniors, are you attending UAF in the fall and were curious about registering for classes? Swing by the library on Thursday, April 18th to talk with a UAF representative about registering for classes. 

     

    Need help getting your resume together for the perfect summer job? Attend our Resume Building Workshop on Tuesday, April 16th during lunch. There will be professionals helping you format the perfect resume for your next job! 

     

    Get ready for a month full of creativity and inspiration! This April, Lathrop Library is thrilled to announce our Artsy April program. Join us as we embark on a journey of artistic exploration, where we will be switching out passive crafts weekly. Each week, discover new and exciting craft projects that will spark your imagination and bring out your inner artist. We are also featuring Lathrop Artists throughout April. Check out some artwork created by your fellow Malemutes throughout the month! 

     

    Celebrate National School Library Month with the Lathrop Library! Did you know your school library has books, but also has ebooks, audiobooks, newspapers, and access to online databases? Expand your world and stop by the Lathrop Library today! 

     

    March

     

    Noel Wien Public Library will be hosting a Sharpie Mug craft on Thursday, March 28th during lunch! This event is free and open to all students! Swing by to have some fun! 

     

    Join the Library and the Young Author Society this Thursday, March 21st, during lunch for an inspiring presentation by Heather Sparks, a local literary talent, as they share insights on being a published author. Discover the creative process behind the book, engage in a Q&A session, and learn more about the creative process. Don't miss this opportunity to connect with a brilliant local author!

     

    Interested in helping your community and want to learn about the criminal justice system? The Junior DA Program will be doing a presentation during lunch on Wednesday, March 20th in the library! Learn how you can spend a day learning about the legal system and helping with real criminal cases!

     

    Join the Lathrop Library as we follow the Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Race from Anchorage to Nome by logging one minute for every mile of the race. Earn a new set of colorful canine badges along the way! IditaREAD will start on Monday, March 4th and continue through to Friday, March 29th, 2024. For every 100 minutes you read, you will earn a badge and a chance to be put into our raffle! Come join in the reading fun!!

     

    February

     

    Mark your calendars, Noel Wien will be hosting a craft program during lunch on Thursday, February 29th! Swing by to make some super cool neon signs that will light up your world! 

     

    Joseph Holt will be visiting our Young Author Society on February 1st during lunch. Are you interested in hearing from a local author? Are you interested in learning what inspires someone to write and how they have gotten their work published? Come join us! 

     

    January

     

    Winter Book BINGO! Planning on working through your "To Be Read" pile during winter break? Swing by the library to pick up a BINGO sheet to participate. Turn in completed BINGO sheets to the librarians by January 12th to claim your prize! 

     

    The Noel Wien Public Library will be hosting a crafting event in the library on January 25th during lunch! We will be making paper snowflakes and DIY slap bracelets. Come visit us for some crafting fun!

     

    December

     

    Need a quiet place to study for finals or to focus on work? Lathrop Library will be hosting quiet study hours during extension, lunch, and after school. We also have a study room that can be reserved. Swing by the library to get some more information!

     

    Guess how many books it took to build our book tree! Get your guesses in by December 15th, and the closest guesses will get a prize. Students are limited to only 3 guesses. 

     

    Winter Book Bingo! We will be doing our annual Winter Book Bingo. More information to come. 

     

    November

     

    Celebrate Native American Heritage Month at the Lathrop Library! Check out our book display featuring books by Native authors.

     

    Thank a Teacher, and Win a Prize! Swing by the library to fill out a thank-you card to a teacher that you are grateful for. Your name will be entered into a raffle for a prize. Get your thank-you notes to the librarians by Tuesday, November 21, 2023, for a chance to enter our raffle! 

     

    October

     

    Looking for a frightening read? If so, check out our Haunting Tales Display in the library! 

     

    Guess How Many. Test your skills and guess how many skulls are in the jar. The winner(s) will be given a prize on October 27th. 

     

    September

     

    Fall in love with a good book! As the weather starts getting colder, and nights start to get longer, curl up with some of our cozy reads!
