    Grants to Military-Connected Local Educational Agencies for Academic and Support Programs

    AMOUNT:    $1,000,000 

    TIME PERIOD:    September 30, 2022 – May 31, 2027

    GRANT PROGRAM GOAL:  Provide resources to military-connected school districts to identify and implement evidence-based practices to meet the academic needs of military-connected students. Eligible schools must have at least 10% military-connected student enrollment and a professional development component must be implemented. 

    POPULATION TO BE SERVED: Students and staff at Eielson Junior/Senior High, Tanana Middle, Lathrop High, North Pole High, North Pole Middle, BEST 7-12, and Hutchison High

    PROJECT NAME: Operation Arctic Algebra Advancement

    GRANT ACTIVITIES:  Grant funds will be used to compensate an Algebra 1 Instructional Coach to work with teachers and staff to analyze student data and inform instructional decision-making to increase student learning. In addition to ensuring all grant obligations are fulfilled, this Coach will support teachers’ use of evidence-based teaching strategies and interventions to address student achievement gaps in Algebra 1. 

    An external Algebra 1 expert will be contracted to provide a summer instructional institute for teachers that will include teaching at a summer school for students needing to recover credit for Algebra 1. This learning will be supported throughout the year through further work with the Algebra 1 expert during district-wide learning opportunities, through 1-1 coaching, and through for-credit courses for math teachers each semester. To remove barriers to teacher participation, funds will be used for stipends and for continuing education credit reimbursements.

    DISTRICT OBLIGATIONS: Evaluation, financial, and performance reports are required
