  • Message From Your District Leadership-June 17, 2020

Hello School District Family, The district is fully engaged in Smart Start planning for next school year. This is a daunting task, and our plan will impact the entire community. We have included a wide variety of stakeholders to be sure we consider the full spectrum of thoughts and perspectives. As we move through the planning process, I will update you on our progress. The most critical information I can share with you right now is this: As long as we are experiencing the COVID-19 pandemic, the best-case scenario for schools is a Low Risk environment. The Green Zone describes a Low Risk environment. It is not an environment with no risk where we can assume normal operating procedures. The Green Zone requires 6 feet of social distancing, and a variety of other precautions that will significantly impact how we deliver instruction.

  • Message from Your District Leadership-June 3, 2020

Dear School District Family and Fairbanks Community, Events of this past week, fueled by the atrocity of George Floyd’s death, have consumed me. I find it very difficult to capture in words my thoughts about the unfathomable acts of bigotry, racism, cowardice and the lack of leadership. I’ve boomeranged back and forth between horror, guilt, anger, incredulousness, passion, sorrow, empathy, helplessness, heartbreak, and fear. I’ve reached out to co-workers, friends, and family close to home and across the country to hear their stories. I try to understand.

  • From Your District Leadership - April 7, 2020

We are in the fourth week of school closure. Last week we rolled out remote learning, and this week we are providing grading guidelines. It is my hope that the grading guidelines will relieve stress for educators, families and students. The guidelines clarify the district’s teaching and learning goals for second semester at the elementary, middle and high school levels, with an emphasis on feedback. The guidelines also address questions about how final quarter and semester grades will be determined.
