Ms. Mary Reece, Grade 1 Teacher

Hi! I’m Mary Reece and I love 1st Grade.

When I was young my family lived in many places all over the world and when I was in third grade we moved to Fairbanks. Although I was a little disappointed to not be living in an igloo when we moved here, I found great friends at the schools here in town. In fact, I went to several grade schools here in Fairbanks while I was growing up: Hunter, Nordale, Woodriver, Joy, Tanana, and Lathrop.

One of my favorite things to do is camp and kayak with my friends and Fairbanks is a perfect place for that. My husband Andrew and I have two children, Delaney and William. My children came to school here at Anne Wien and when I volunteered in my children’s classrooms, I realized that I wanted to be in the classroom full time. So, I closed my small business and became a teacher full time. Best decision ever.

Helping children learn to love school and enjoy learning through play is one way I get to enjoy life to the fullest.
