WELLER LIBRARY MISSES YOU!!
PLEASE, DO NOT RETURN LIBRARY BOOKS AT THIS TIME!
I am not at school to collect books so please continue to enjoy the books you checked out.
Share them with your brothers, sisters & cousins too! Return the well loved books once we are able to see each other again.
BATTLE OF THE BOOKS (TENATIVE) LISTS ARE OUT!!!!
Weller Whales know how EXCITED this makes me!! I realize we may not be together BUT here is our chance to spend as much time as we want READING!!! The lists are posted at - akaslbattleofthebooks/home. The lists include a few "ALT" titles - this means they may choose to add one or more of the "ALT" titles to the required reading list. Taking advantage of this chance to study is why Weller Readers come out on TOP!! Remember you are reading books on the list for the grade you will be entering in August. I have read some of the books on the lists already. I am looking forward to discussing them ALL with you when we are together again!
BATTLE OF THE BOOKS
Weller Program Information:
What is Battle of the Books?
Battle of the Books is a statewide reading motivation and comprehension program sponsored by the Alaska Association of School Librarians. The goal of the program is to improve reading and comprehension while building enthusiasm for reading using a fun and unique competition format. Students will compete in teams to demonstrate their knowledge of the preselected books.
Who can compete?
Students in grades 3-6.
*At our school we have 2ndgrade participate at the school level to prepare them for district battle as an older student.
How will the teams be formed?
Students are encouraged to form their own teams consisting of 3 members. I will help students find a team if necessary.
When will students/teams practice?
At the beginning of October a day of the week will be selected for students to meet in the Library during their recess time. Students are asked to keep a Battle of the Books notebook/ folder with notes about each book, author & title flashcards as well as practice questions. Students are encouraged to read the books at home so they are ready to practice/answer questions during team practices.
