    WELCOME BACK

    Dear Joy Families,

The first day of school for students is Thursday, August 20th and we will begin in remote learning for students enrolled in the in-person blended learning option. Families will need devices and materials from their teacher to be ready to begin class remotely on August 20th. Joy is still the home campus for students enrolled in the eLearning option, so they will also need to come to Joy to pick up their student’s device.

iPads will be assigned to all kindergarten students and Chromebooks will be assigned to all 1st through 8th-grade students.  You may pick up devices and materials on Tuesday, August 18th, anytime from 8:30 AM to 3:00 PM and 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM, unless otherwise arranged by your child’s teacher.  This will hopefully give you flexibility in your day to come to the school, particularly if you are picking up devices and materials for multiple children in your household.

DEVICE AND MATERIAL PICK UP LOCATIONS Tuesday, August 18th from 8:30 AM to 3:00 PM and 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM

    • Kindergarten and 1st grade - Main entrance doors
    • 2nd grade - Parent pickup area doors (near the parking lot toward the back of the building)
    • 3rd grade: Flagpole area doors
    • 4th grade: Playground area doors
    • 5th - 8th grades: Roundabout doors (at the very back of the building)

Your classroom teacher will be at these locations to meet you, give you the needed remote learning materials, and have you sign a hard copy of the Acceptable Use Policy and Agreement. Please plan to wear a mask and practice 6 feet physical distancing when you arrive and wait to see your teacher.

    Sincerely,

    LaLaunie Whisenhant

    Principal, Joy Elementary, K-8

  • District News & Notes | September 3, 2020

Hello School District Family, On Wednesday, September 2nd, the Board of Education voted to “provide in-school learning supports for students identified by Student Support Services and Special Education according to the phase-in plans developed by those departments.” Special Education Student Education teams are convening to review individual student education plans (IEP) and identify the extent to which individual students with disabilities may require more access to in-person learning opportunities than their peers. The nature or severity of disability for some of our special education students may make it uniquely difficult for them to fully benefit from these remote educational opportunities and address their overall learning and developmental needs.
