Excellence and Equity for All
FAIRBANKS — The Board of Education voted to continue exploring K-8 schools in Fairbanks and Salcha with hopes to offer the option to more students who want it starting in 2018.
The vote on Tuesday was a direction to elementary schools that have at least one extra classroom to come up with K-8 plans tailored to their school’s needs.
If plans are adopted, more parents will eventually have the choice to send their
seventh- and eighth-graders to a K-8 school or to middle schools, according to district officials.
“You have to begin to do things that have been shown to have positive gain for kids,” said school board member Sue Hull, who championed the idea.
