Every school year each school and program is required to complete a comprehensive safety audit. This audit requires schools to look at various aspects, from potential hazards in the building to the policies and procedures in place.

Safety is a priority in the Fairbanks North Star Borough School District. There are many parts to our safety program. Many of them are described below or on the pages that follow.
Safety Audit
Safety Liaisons
The district has two safety liaisons who work with all of the schools. These liaisons work with the local law enforcement agencies and they assist schools whenever there is a situation that is complex or involves more than one school. Safety Assistants
Each of the middle schools and high schools has at least one safety assistant. This position helps the administration monitor school safety on a daily basis.
Safe and Drug Free Schools
The Safe and Drug Free Schools program has many aspects which help schools maintain their safe school designation. For more information about the Safe and Drug Free Schools program please contact the coordinator at 452-2000, ext. 355.
Security Cameras
Security cameras are used in many of our schools. These have been put into place as preventative measures to help the administration address situations. The district’s school board policy 723 addresses security cameras.
