In order for students to earn their high school diploma, they will now need to take either a career-readiness assessment (WorkKeys) or a college-readiness assessment (SAT or ACT). The High School Graduation Qualifying Exam (HSGQE) is no longer applicable.
The State of Alaska will pay for one assessment per student starting in grade 11. Students who have not already taken the WorkKeys, will need to inform their school counselor of their assessment choice (WorkKeys, SAT, or ACT) by October 20, 2014.
The paid assessments are scheduled for the following dates:
Additional information about the new requirements can be found at the State of Alaska’s Alaska Assessment webpage.
A student can earn a valid score by actively participating in the assessment to the best of their ability.
