A: It is much easier to use than our current Webmail system. Also, it is more than just e-mail. It is a collaboration suite that contains an online calendar that you can share with your co-workers, parents and/or students. Zimbra will also allow you to use online file storage, task management, and much more. It can be set up to push out your e-mail and calendar directly to some smart phones.
Webmail
A: Using your web browser (e.g. Firefox, Safari, Internet Explorer) you can receive, send, and manage your e-mail. Webmail allows you to access your mail from any computer as long as you have an internet connection.
An e-mail client (e.g.Thunderbird or Mac Mail) is an application that is installed on your computer. The application must be configured to point to the server where your e-mail is stored. E-mail applications allow you to view your e-mails offline.
A: No, all e-mail addresses will change to "firstname.lastname@k12northstar.org" Your northstar.k12.ak.us e-mail address will continue to redirect to your new e-mail account for a period of about 1 year to allow time for you to distribute your new e-mail address. Go to the Staff Page on the district web site to view your "My Info." If you need to request a preferred name, visit the Preferred Name Portal to submit a request.
A: Yes, your contacts in Communigate Webmail will be transferred over along with your e-mail messages and folders to the new Zimbra Webmail.

A: The current maximum file size that can be attached to an email is limited to 25 MB. For larger files, we suggest using the Briefcase functionality of Zimbra to post documents that you can then share.
A: For faculty and staff, storage capacity is 250 MB. It is important to note that this figure covers not just your email messages, but also any files you may have uploaded to the Briefcase while using the Zimbra collaboration suite.
A: Zimbra collaboration suite is a combination of email, calendar, document sharing and other tools. Zimbra provides a web client that takes the place of Webmail when you click the Webmail button on any FNSBSD web page.
A: Zimbra works well with both Apple Mail and Thunderbird (on the Mac or PC.) To set up Apple Mail for Zimbra, follow these instructions. To set up Thunderbird for Zimbra, follow the instructions under Email Config Doc's for the specific email client you have.
A: Zimbra makes it easy to access all of your collaboration tools from your mobile device. Whether you are using a BlackBerry, iPhone or other mobile, Zimbra provides a solution. If your smartphone OS offers Exchange Activesync integration, then you should be able to connect with Zimbra.
A: To print using the Zimbra web client, be sure to always use the print button in the Zimbra toolbar instead of choosing File > Print in your browser. This will give you a much better, formatted email print out that contains your complete message.
