9/9/09 Phone Message to Parents
Below is a copy of the phone message sent home (9/7/09) to all parents of students in the Fairbanks North Star Borough School District.
Good evening, this is Nancy Wagner, superintendent for the Fairbanks North Star Borough School District. As you may have seen in the news, a child from our community passed away Friday, September 4. It has been confirmed that the student had H1N1 influenza. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family during this tragic event.
I am calling to reassure you, and all of our parents, that the health and safety of our students is our top priority. The district has been vigilant in its effort to limit the spread of H1N1 influenza. This global pandemic has been a major concern for communities across the country. Since last April, the district has worked closely with local and state health officials.
Over the labor day weekend, the district has been in consultation with the state's top health officials. We will continue to follow their guidance. All schools will remain open and in session.
The district utilizes effective sanitization to maintain safe and healthy school facilities and we monitor the health of all students and staff.
We will continue to share recommendations through our communication channels to limit the spread of flu related illnesses.
