Introduction

The purpose of the Fairbanks North Star Borough School District (FNSBSD) Alaska Construction Academy Grant Program is to offer high school students vocational courses and workshops that will lead to jobs in high demand fields in construction and/or trade apprenticeship programs. The program consists of two components: Construction Academy and Construction Workshops. The Construction Academy offers a series of building trades courses and workshops to introduce and expose high school students to construction skills. Each of the four courses, Building Trades 1A, 1B, 2A, and 2B, are offered after school and/or at school sites that do not offer these courses during the regular school day. The two Academy locations are Ryan Middle School and North Pole High School. In addition to the Construction Academy, short theme-focused Construction Workshops, taught by Alaska Works Partnership (AWP) instructors, will also be offered.

Transportation to and from the Construction Academy and/or Construction Workshops is the responsibility of the parent/student.

Application Process

In order to participate in the FNSBSD Alaska Construction Academy Grant Program, a fully completed application packet must be submitted prior to each course/training start date. One application packet can be submitted for the Academy and Workshops.

For the Construction Academy, all of the following items must be completed, signed, and submitted:

• Student Application Form
• EEO Certification Form
• Photo Release Form
• Staff Recommendation Form

For the Construction Workshops, all of the following items must be completed, signed, and submitted:

• Student Application Form
• EEO Certification Form
• Photo Release Form
  

The application may be completed online or printed out and completed. After completion, obtain appropriate signatures and submit.  Fully completed applications may be submitted via email, fax, or in person to:
