FAIRBANKS - Charlayne Czaplewski likes learning about Alaska and music and playing sports that involve hand-eye coordination at Ticasuk Brown Elementary School. She is a third-grade student who can recite the stages of maturing salmon and enjoys Garfield comic books.

Her third-grade teachers are Brit Nelson and Dominique Meierotto, and they say she has a positive attitude, is organized, follows directions and asks questions if she doesn’t understand something.

“Charlayne is very bright and an all-around wonderful person,” one of her teachers wrote. “She is respectful and kind to everyone, as well as helpful and friendly. She always has a smile on her face and does her very best in class.”

Some of Charlayne’s latest projects at school were a detailed topographical and political map of Alaska and a salmon life cycle poster. Third-grade students have been learning about the life cycle as part of an Alaska Department of Fish and Game salmon project.
